Schools across the country are using and relying on data to inform decisions ranging from curriculum and student achievement, to family engagement and teacher retention.  How to collect and analyze data is a skill that educators in Washington, D.C. are investing in to accelerate student achievement.  On July 13, Flamboyan Foundation will thought-partner with over 200 participants and experts at the 8th Annual DC Data Summit hosted by Friends of Choice in Urban Schools (FOCUS).  Flamboyan will provide an overview of family listening sessions, including how to conduct them, analyze their qualitative data, and leverage them for change.

At the Data Summit, teachers, leaders, and staff from D.C. public and public charter schools will gather to discuss trends and best practices for using, sharing, and visualizing data.  Apeksha Goonewardena, Data Analyst at Flamboyan, will present Family Listening Sessions: Collecting and Analyzing Qualitative Data.  Participants will learn about Flamboyan’s history of listening and hear key takeaways from Flamboyan’s listening sessions featuring interviews with 71 families.  Attendees will also gain valuable insight into how to recruit and interview families, as well as integrate their voices into decision-making.

The Summit offers practical tools for members of the school community working with data.  Some of the other workshops include: Beginner Excel, Advanced Qlik Skills to Visualize Common Assessment Data, Introduction to Google Docs, Dashboards 101, and Mail Merge: A Powerful Tool for Communicating Data to Parents.  Click here for a full list of sessions.
