Flamboyan Foundation works with a cohort of school’s throughout the District to build teacher and school leader capacity to implement and institutionalize effective family engagement within their schools’ culture. So, when news broke that eight schools in the Family Engagement Partnership (FEP) were represented in the 2017 Standing Ovation Awards for their dedication and excellence, Flamboyan was proud to share in the celebration.

Three of our partner schools won awards and will be honored at Standing Ovation: Stanton Elementary School for Excellence in Family Engagement, Truesdell Education Campus for Excellence in School Innovation, and Bancroft Elementary School for Excellence by an Academic Leadership Team. Flamboyan staff joined in the announcement when D.C. Public Schools and D.C. Public Education Fund surprised Stanton and Truesdell with a visit and announced the schools will each receive $25,000 in honor of their Standing Ovation Excellence Awards.

“When Flamboyan started this work nearly a decade ago, we knew that we wanted to focus on the impact of family engagement,” said Kristin Ehrgood, Flamboyan Foundation president, who recalled Stanton as one of the first schools to partner with Flamboyan in 2011. “Stanton and Truesdell are veteran schools in the FEP. Together, we share in the longstanding impact of effective family engagement strategies that have been instrumental in transforming the relationship between teachers and families. In turn, students excel academically.”
In addition to the Standing Ovation Excellence Award winners, seven FEP leaders and teachers were honored with Rubenstein Awards and each will receive $5,000:
– Milton Bryant, Ketcham Elementary School
– Maurice Kennard, Brightwood Education Campus
– Kathryn Larkin, H.D. Cooke Elementary School
– Eric Bethel, Turner Elementary School
– Anna Krughoff, Marie Reed Elementary School
– Imelda Lopez-Diaz, Bancroft Elementary School
– Charles Robinson, Truesdell Education Campus
Each winner will be honored at the annual Standing Ovation for DC Public Schools ceremony at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts on March 13, 2017.
