Highlights on Flamboyan’s Successes in 2017

Now that the holiday break has come to an end and we are embarking on a new year, we thought it was a perfect time to reflect on a few of our successes in 2017. Our shared commitment to family engagement helps us meet our goal of families and educators across the country actively partnering to support student success. Without a doubt, Flamboyan’s school partners share in our 2017 achievements.

  1. Flamboyan’s family engagement framework prompted educators from Korea to visit Washington, D.C. to learn more about sustainable effective family engagement strategies.
  2. After a nationwide search, Flamboyan hired Alicia Robinson as the organization’s first-ever Talent and Equity Leader.
  3. Flamboyan’s DCPS partner schools were honored with cash prizes for winning Standing Ovation Awards recognizing their excellence in family engagement, school innovation, and other categories.
  4. A Flamboyan parent trainer guest blogged for Getting Smart, detailing her journey partnering with her son’s teacher as part of April’s World Autism Awareness Month.
  5. Flamboyan partnered with Montessori schools in Puerto Rico to help get more than 700 students back to their classrooms after Hurricane Maria.
  6. Flamboyan expanded its Middle School Family Engagement Partnership portfolio naming six D.C. middle schools as partners.
  7. Flamboyan partnered with on-the-ground humanitarian relief organizations in Puerto Rico centers to provide one million gallons of clean drinking water to five of the most devastated areas affected by Hurricane Maria.
